Heaving a sigh, Kaaria flopped over on the ground, her long orange tail swishing back and forth. She flexed her forepaws, chasing at the ants crawling across their little mounds of earth. She knew how easy it would be for her to smash them and move on, but she didn't. She wasn't like that- not that she would get down on others for doing so.
The thin peach-coloured lioness was still in her prime. About six years old. She was still Roho Nguvu's shaman. Thinking more about it, she mentally admonished herself for being so lazy and stood up. She tried to be energetic, but she was feeling quite lethargic, and thus her stride was slow and tired. Her head hung low, and her tail drooped. She forgot what she even left her territory for- to collect an herb she was short on? No, that couldn't be it, her den was stock full of plants. What was it she needed? Had she come out for a walk? She doubted that. Maybe she had just absent-mindedly wandered out of her den. That must have been it.
Her thoughts turned to her family. After she had found Johari- which had been over a year ago, how time flies- that started occurring more often. She often wondered about her mother's death. Had it been painful? Did she know that her death would affect her children so much more than she thought? Yes, her mother was never the nicest lioness, as she was usually grumpy and snappish- especially with Kaaria- but at the end of the day, she cared about her children. Kaaria worked hard to make her proud. She tried to be tough like her sister, and erase her timid and shy nature, but her attempts all failed.
Huffing and shaking her head lightly, she continued strolling around, her expression making her appear as if she was extremely bored. She only realized how far away she was from home when she heard snarling behind her. She spun around, immediately seeing a large rogue female prowling towards her. She stiffened, her tail lashing and her claws extending, but before she could demand who the other lioness was, a flash of pale fur and blazing amber eyes knocked her to the hard surface of the ground. Lashing out with her back paws, Kaaria managed to kick the female in the chin, but her attack was weak.
Bellowing, the stranger swiped her long, curved claws at Kaaria's face, opening gashes in the orange lioness's muzzle and forehead. Crying out, Kaaria struggled to fight back, managing to scratch her opponent a few times, but the damage she caused was clearly very minor, at least to the amber-eyed female. Very quickly did the rogue manage to overpower the smaller female and close her jaws around her neck, tearing Kaaria's throat with ease.
Everything from then on was a blur. Kaaria blindly tried to get up and stumble back home, but didn't even make it two steps without falling pathetically to the ground. Flashes of white appeared before her eyes, but all she could hear was her own ragged breaths. She was bleeding profusely. Her blood quickly drained from her body and spilled onto the rocks, leaving Kaaria eventually gasping, but no air got into her lungs.
Atuzel, Johari, Domo... She couldn't just leave them. Those three were so significant in her life, and the thought of leaving them was painful, much worse than the agony than the wounds the rogue had inflicted on her. Johari was her sister, and Atuzel and Domo had been very dear friends of hers, Atuzel even her crush at some time in her life, when she was young and silly, and a hopeless romantic. How she wanted to see them for just a few more seconds, to tell them how much they meant to her and how much she cared about them. But that wouldn't happen.
It seemed like hours, but in reality it was just a few moments before Kaaria left behind her sister and her two best friends permanently. This is it, Mother... I'm coming home.
