Greetings. How fair you all?
Well, I am the ever so newcomer, Euseph.
I'm quite the cheerful one, ye?
I've spotted this board, and instantly it pulled me in. I adore writing, sharing my stories with those willing to read all.
Now I may not have the best writing-or rather, the best alluring writing style, but I do hope you enjoy yourself while reading my work.
A little bit about this story, titled as seen, Promise in His Innocence.
This story follows the young Euseph, bubbly and cute as usual with a bittersweet past, and rather, a cute promise he had made to his father in his youth. He's always been the one for a positive outlook on things.
"When you can live everyday with that beautiful smile, come find me over the horizon. I will comfort your aching ills." - Euseph 2015
In these years, he was cared for dearly by his family, seen as a promising child. However, a tragedy occurs before the young cub. Though, there is a twist to this tragic scene, oh yes.
Read through it all. You will certainly treat yourself.
Hope you enjoy it! Love you a lot. ~ <3

Promise in His Innocence
I
I Promise, Dad
Questionable mews rode the wind, sparing the after squeals of starved mouths. Watchful eyes of dark hues would gather at the presence of a cream lioness; a mother. Juicy meat decorated her chaps, wedged between her jaws. Lifted with a coo, the mother would step over her young, entering the faintly lit cave into the deeper parts. Upon a bed of dry grass would she sprawl out said meat. Seating herself neatly, her smile beamed before her little spawn.
A cub of her pelt, dark eyes to bear, came forth with wishful thinking.
"Mother! You brought home food! Yum!"
"Euseph, my little cream, won't you settle your voice? It is but dawn, my son."
This cub, named Euseph, chirped to his mother with a rub to her foreleg. Nuzzling, the warmth she gave was radiating through his fur.
"I can't help it! My tummy has been making funny noises. There are bubbles in my stomach."
It was hopeless, little Eus can never be calmed. His high spirit called to the heavens with an overjoyed decree. Little the sigh, his mother took his scruff into her jaws, lifting her little cream boy, placing him to the side of the meat she'd obtained. His siblings gathered 'round, picking at it with their small, well-developed teeth. Euseph did the same, having his share, tugging and tearing at it like some chew toy.
Suddenly, a purring male would enter this cave. Having made his way, his scarred muzzle pressed against their mother's, affectionately licking at her lips. T'was the father of the litter, a darker male in comparison, bright-eyed. Buff and large, he resembled that of an intimidating male. However, he was a gentle soul.
The cubs cried at his arrival; this family-so close and loving. Jumped by the two siblings, the father would fall, pretending as if the attack had impacted a punch to his bodice. Euseph gave frantic licks to his light hued maw. Sauntering on over to join his brawling father and sisters, he made the final blow. Leaping for his father's muzzle, he jumped a bit too high, hitting the wall of the cave. Father having rushed to his son's side, brows raised.
"Dear Lord, Euseph, son-that was quite the fail there."
"Daddy...you just moved your muzzle. That's all."
"OH, sure, sure. Your move was brilliant. However, my dodge skills are superior."
"Dadddd..."
The cream cub stood, then giving a subtle lick to the nose of his father. Even after that comment, the boy had not the heart to hate the very lion he admired. The father had his share of licks upon his son's pelt. Standing, his paw would nudge at the side of Eus.
"Come along son. Let us go watch the sun rise since you've had your breakfast, ye'?"
"Okay!"
Of course, Euseph happily followed after his father, trying to walk along in those large paw prints left behind. With the safety of the dimmed cave no longer needed, he spotted his father taking a seat at the entrance. Bouncing on over, he would squeeze himself between the large male's paws.
"Geez dad. Your paws are too big. How do your paws even breathe?"
Ignoring that comment, a softened smile took hostage of the father's visage. The sun began to rise; its beauty was bright-perhaps too bright, bringing a squint to his eyes. As Eus sat there between those huge paws, his eyes of burgundy watched the sun come out onto the horizon. A question expected of youth would leave the lips of the cream cub.
"Dad, what is love? I heard you and mom say it to each other."
"Hm-OH, well, how do I exactly explain that?"
Finding his words, the father clicked his tongue, kissing his teeth. This was an undoubtedly hard question to answer. Oh boy, had to be a question of various answers.
"Okay, love is a powerful feeling you get when you dearly care for someone. Whether it be family, a friend. Then there is the point where you grow up and you find someone very special-someone who completely takes your breath from you. You never know when it will hit, but when it does, that's when you really know that someone was meant for you."
A brow sketched upward now, Eus only gave off confused signs. Well, of course he would. Such a mind was not capable of understanding most adult related topics.
"Oh. Well, when you find this special someone, what do you do?"
The father closed his lids, momentarily giving a soft exhale. The gentle smile remained, giving him the appearance of a calmed mind. Drawn lips, his voice broke that short silence.
"When you find that special someone, it depends on you, what you do I mean. The best thing to do is to hold on tight to them, warm them with your breaths and tell them everything would be just fine. Tell them they were worth the scars, worth the fights, worth the injury all together. Comfort them, and tell them you love them everyday."
Euseph perked the ears, listening to his father's voice, which seemed to have faded into a saddened tone. What happened? He'd never sounded so sad. Removing himself from between the paws, the cream boy looked to his father with a shine in the eyes, a half, yet sweet smile, and a tilt of the head. Wrapped small forelegs around the large male's foreleg, Eus looked to his father with that expression.
"It's okay daddy. When I do find that special someone, I will do all those things and more."
"You promise me, son? My boy, do you promise your father to grant happiness to them?"
"Yes, I promise daddy. I promise with all my heart."

Without a Goodbye
Two weeks passed, famine drew even worse this week. The family barely had enough to eat as it was, and mother became feeble with the lack of nutrition. The cubs grew weak. Poor things.
Father took mother to the entrance, allowing her now delicate and thin body to lean against his for support. Seating, a grave look plastered upon his features.
"We've got to move. It's not healthy to stay here any longer. If we stay, we starve-our cubs starve. I know it is dangerous-these lands have not been generous the past years. I rather not have my family starve, though."
Mother nuzzled her side into his, rubbing her cheek into his mane with grief written all over her face. A regret, her nod gave the approval of the migration. She'd not wish death upon her mate or cubs-that would be too harsh and painful.
"Fine. Let us leave now. I don't believe I can walk further if we wait too much."
Minutes later, the family have left their cave, their only home and safety. It was sad to leave those memories behind, but life was the main focus. Walking along the marsh was there shrieks of mysterious creatures masking the wind. Coming to a stand still, a river was to be crossed. However, these waters were croc infested. The father would look out to the murky surface, squinting to see if any movement could be spotted. This failed, though. With the cubs to swim along first, the mother would follow, then their father.
The darkest of days-it occurred within moments. Some swift movements disturbed the water-creeping closer to the family. As they continued, a rough jerk at the father's back leg drew him to be pulled back. As their mother looked over, she saw this happen. Trying to turn back to help, the father batted her out of care.
"Don't you dare! Get them to shore, NOW!"
The pain in his voice was heart wrenching. A tear came to the clouded over eyes of the father, as if he were departing his beautiful family with his regret-as if he knew he would no longer be with them. The unforgivable...has happened.
Thrashing! Rolls! The violent attacks brought their father under the water. Bubbles displayed at the top, some splashing of paws then came. They were the paws of their father, struggling to either reach above the surface. The paws disappear once more beneath the surface. More splashing and thrashing occurred. The mother brought Euseph and his sisters to the shore as their father had yelled the demand. As the violent thrashing had stopped, few bubbles resurfaced, but they were gone. As they looked on to the river, their mother froze, her pupils shrunk, heart sunk. Silence fell over the family. They were now one member short.
Tears filled the mother's eyes, staining her cream muzzle as they fell. His sisters-they trembled as father had been dragged down like that-the very same lion who won scars from countless battles. Euseph shed not a tear-none. His face had not been written over with sadness-not one bit. Looking to his side, there was his father, as if nothing had happened. Wow.
Although his father appeared to him, he was in spirit form, and the others could not see him standing there. Walking over to his mother, he would rub his muzzle into her foreleg.
"Momma, let's take daddy to our new home."
"Baby...daddy...he..."
"Let's take him home."
Remarkable-his eyes could see the spirit of his father, yet, his mother and sisters could not. That was all so fast, though. A croc had taken their father-a few crocs in fact. No goodbye either...no sort of way to hear his voice once again.
A pain in life-never getting to hear someone say goodbye to you-and you get no chance to see them again...

Our New Home, Daddy
In the new land, it was thriving with life-exceptional prey. Antelope and gazelle swept through the savannah gracefully, hippos swam the waters, giraffes grazed the tree tops, and more. Lush grass filled the soil, creating a refreshing view from that of the land they once called home. Tired paws drove the family forth, coming to a peaceful looking cave surrounded by flora. As his mother and sisters entered said cave for rest, Euseph still saw his father.
Tilting of the head, the cream cub ran forward after his running father, chasing him with a smile upon his maw. Coming to a stop as his father had now stood still, Eus would stare up at the male with a curious expression. The father lowered himself, a soft smile covering his features. Placing a paw over his son's head and pressing his forehead and the bridge of his snout against his son's, he then removed his touch from the youth. Speaking no words, he removed his paw. Eus looked to his father with happiness-their new home was complete bliss.
Father stood there before his young son with a proud stance, swishing his tail. Nodding to Euseph, he would then begin to run through the air, making way up to the sky. Thus, his spirit had faded.
The cub ran forward a bit with a smile on his lips, coming to a stop atop a small hill. Wind brushed his pelt, chin lifted, looking to the sky. He could swear he still saw his father running in the sky with a smile on his face. Euseph stood tall, and that smile never left.
"Goodbye, daddy."

My Promise to You, Dad
Four years had passed. Foreign paws walked the lands in which he traveled to; ones different of the home he had moved to during his youth. This land-it was written with scents, prides, and more. However, it was lovely in appearance. Continuing to walk on, this stranger would raise his chin, looking to the sky colored of indigo. Burgundy eyes beamed as shooting stars took hold, creating a fantasy-like feel to the world. A smile stuck.
"I've grown. Can't believe it's been four years already. I can still remember my admiration for you. Also, I never forgot my promise to you. When I find that special someone, I will hold them tight to the point of their loss of breath. I will shield them with my body, I will protect them with scars to my flesh, if so be. I will whisper sweet nothings to them every night. I will shower them in compliments. I will wipe their tears when they cry. I will warm them with my heavy arms. I will be their blade, I will be their companion, their friend, their lover. I will tell them every morning how lucky I am to have them at my side, and how I love them so. I will never stop loving them, not even when death comes."
This stranger drew an even wider smile, simply looking to the sky.
"In return for their support, I will rest my chin over their noggin when lonely calls my name forth. I will rest my head upon their paws when I wish to sleep with sweet dreams. I will cry into their chest and throw out all of my feelings out for them to hear. I will share my heart with them. I will forever come to them when I am feeling down."
And so, said stranger would lower his chin, closing his lids softly, a half smile now drawing his lips. Walking on, the male bore a magnificent tawny-cream pelt, dark burgundy eyes, and a heart of gold.
Even a promise can never be forgotten...especially when it was made to someone you lost in your past. When it was a promise you made as a child-the promise you wish to fulfill-the promise meant to be kept by word.
